This is our favorite day hike because of its proximity to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, just over the border in Al Ain, 2 short hours away.  This is a beautiful varied terrain hike. The ascent is around 3 hours, and the descent is another 2 hours, though the way down is tricky. If you attempt to push through, you will have the option to turn around earlier and make this a 4-hour hike, leaving off the more difficult sections. Early rise 5 hours continuous hiking. This hike is family friendly for active kids 9+.

We will stay in a lovely new resort close the start of the trek. Friday afternoon we will relax in the hotel (you will need recovery time) Saturday, we will head to a nearby – unknown and amazing wadi for swimming and hiking. It’s very flat and very accessible.

Moderate: Up steep hills and down exposed ledges, with bouldering and some climbing.

Duration: Jabal Qatar – 5 hours / Wadi Trek – 3 hours

Length: Jabal Qatar – 10 km / Wadi Trek – 6 km

Elevation: Jabal Qatar – 786 m

This will not be an easy hike if you are not fit and do not participate in fitness activities at least 3 times per week. However, if you already are fit, and you have never hiked before, you will enjoy this hike. You must have trekking shoes to be able to participate in this trek.

Day 1: We will stay on Thursday night in an very cute Resort. make sure to bring your swimsuit to enjoy the pool after our hike!  No need to fuss with camping gear, sleeping bags or the worrying lack of a toilet.

Day 2: We’ll have an early breakfast at 6 am and the weekend starts with an early morning hike up Jebel Qatar. The ascent is around 3 hours, and the descent is another 2 hours, though the way down is tricky.  If you attempt to push through,  you will have the option to turn around earlier and make this a 4 hour hike, leaving off the more difficult sections. The hike will be followed by a well-deserved rest by the hotel pool in the afternoon.

Day 3: The following day will commence with a wonderful wadi trek that is known only to the locals and includes some beautiful banana plantations and cool refreshing pools worth taking a dip in. You’ll be back by evening.

Amazing weekend from start to finish. Milly thought of everything! The resort was quirky quaint and beautiful. Beds hard but after a tiring day I didn’t even notice! The hike up jabal Qatar was more challenging than I imagined it would be- but this added to my sense of achievement as we reached the summit! The trek down was long and hot- but Milly had cold water juice and chocolate waiting for us at the end! After a much needed shower and doze the sunset yoga was perfect to ease aching limbs. A delicious meal of barbecued fish and meat with incredible whole food salads ensured we slept well and were refreshed for the wadi hike the next day. Stunning scenery through farmland and plantations culminating in a refreshing swim in a clear wadi pool. I loved it all and would recommend!
