Mt Kenya is known as more scenic, less crowded and of course, lower altitude than Kilimanjaro. If you're nervous about altitude, this is a great 'first' mountain. But, its also a real challenge if you try the technical route. This summer, join our team, get the training and preparation you need before you go. We include your free training in your package. You'll know what to take, have full confidence in your fitness and abilities before you get on the plane.
The route itself is a challenge: rough underfoot, an overgrown track more used by elephants than humans, muddy when wet, no huts and with dense stands of giant bamboo and montane forest -truly for real wilderness aficionados. The route was pioneered during colonial days and then abandoned for many years until it was re-opened in the early 90’s. It provides a unique and completely natural mountain trekking experience. We have two groups on this one, both groups will do the trekking peak o Point Lenana then descend on the Chogoria route. A smaller group will take an extra day to climb the technical route up to Nelian Or Batian Peak. We will descend to meet the other team members and leave the park together.
Accommodation on this hike is in tents, but we will eat in the huts with others. Camping in your own private tent is much cleaner, private and more comfortable than in the group dormitory huts. Porters will carry our bags, our tents and our food. We will carry only a day pack. The temps are not as cold as on Kilimanjaro, a down jacket, other layers, and waterproofs will suffice. There is no risk of malaria, as we are above 2000 m at all times. Water is purified for us on a daily basis and our food is cooked fresh on site every day.
UAE Trekkers Advantage:
We offer the opportunity to get preparation and training prior to departure. We have training hikes at graded levels and every weekend to get you ready. In the weekends that you can’t get out of town, you’ll have a Ski Dubai training session. Before you leave, a pre departure detailed briefing about what to expect, and a few shopping trips to ensure you have what you need. We also know what gear is necessary where you can get by with less, and where you should not skimp at all. We will share our knowledge with you.
