Overview and Activities

Day 1: Maramagambo Forest Trek

Driving: Kigali to Queen Elizabeths National Park 5 hrs

Description: Arriving in Kigali International airport, we will clear immigration and meet our local guide. The morning will be spent driving through Rwanda, crossing into Uganda and reaching our final destination in the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda. Lunch will be in-route. After  arriving at our hotel and briefly getting settled, we will join a park ranger for a trek in the Maramagambo Forest where you can find a variety of birds, forest antelope, monkeys, a bat cave and the ‘cormorant house’ a large tree in the forest that has been turned white by the birds that roost there at night. Overnight/dinner Kyambura Gorge Lodge or similar 3-star hotel.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trek

Description: This morning is dedicated to tracking chimps in Kyambura Gorge. Explore this ‘underground forest’ before a picnic lunch overlooking the gorge. After lunch enjoy a boat cruise on the spectacular Kazinga Channel which connects Lake Edward to Lake Albert. The Kazinga is habitat to one of the biggest populations of hippopotami in Africa with numerous elephants, buffaloes and other animals, which gather to drink water. The channel also attracts several water birds like the pelicans and the African Fish Eagle.To top off an action-packed day, evening game drive on the Kasenyi plains for sundowners.  Overnight/dinner Kyambura Gorge Lodge or similar 3-star hotel

Day 3: Tree Lion Tracking

Driving: Kyambura Gorge Lodge to Ishasa Jungle Lodge 3 ½ hrs

Description: After breakfast we will drive to the south of the park to explore the Edward Flats and the Ishasha Plains to find the region’s famous tree climbing lions as well as abundant kob, topi, buffalo and elephant. Our picnic lunch today will either be under the shade of a fig tree or in one of the UWA bandas. After lunch we will take a nature walk with an UWA guide along the river to see hippos, crocodiles, and many birds before driving to the Ishasa Jungle Lodge. Overnight/dinner Ishasa Jungle Lodge or similar 3-star lodging.

Day 4: Batwa Experience

Driving: Ishasa to Ruhija Gorilla Camp 3h

Description: This morning we will leave Queen Elizabeth National Park and head south into the Biwndi Impenetrable Forest. In Ruhija we will meet our guide for the afternoon that will lead us on the Batwa experience.

The Batwa were forest people who lived peacefully alongside the Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees in Bwindi and the surrounding forests. When Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was commissioned as a national park in 1991 the Batwa were evicted from the forest, having to leave their old lives and traditions and integrate into the surrounding villages.  The Batwa experience takes you back in time, the Batwa guide you through the forest, teach you about the plants and their uses, show you the homes they used to live in, how they hunted and survived in the forest. Overnight/dinner Gorilla Safari Lodge or similar 3-star lodging

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking

Driving: Ruhija Gorilla Camp to Bwindi Gorilla Lodge 2 ½ hours

Description: Gorilla Tracking is one of the most unforgettable experiences you can have. Descend down into the valley from Nkuringo into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The hike can be steep and the forest thick but your experienced guides and trackers will clear the path and lead you to one of the fantastic Gorilla families. Spend an hour watching these magnificent animals feeding and playing in their natural habitat. From our gorilla trekking adventure, we will continue on to Lake Mutanda where we will relax in a local dugout canoe as you are paddled across this beautiful lake, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. Overnight/dinner in Bwindi Gorilla Lodge or similar 3-star hotel

Day 6: Golden Monkeys Trekking

Driving: Bwindi Jungle Lodge to Mgahinga (1h10m); Mgahinga to Kigali (4h30m)

Description: This morning we will trek and observe the golden monkeys. There are only three countries where you can see the endangered Golden Monkeys in the wild and there are  only about 5000 remaining in the Virunga Volcano Chain. After lunch we will leave the Mgahinga National Park and begin our journey to Kigali. We will arrive at the Hotel des Mille Collines (known as the Hotel Rwanda) for an early dinner before heading to the airport. Dinner is not included the price of the tour.

You will need to set up UAE Trekkers as a beneficiary before you will be able to transfer money. Its pretty easy and every bank requires different information.  If you are a RAK bank customer, you only need the account number. This option is very fast.

East African Tourist Visa can be obtained upon arrival at the boarder. Please check their webpage for the latest prices and regulations. Visa’s are not included in the tour price.

Clients are responsible for ensuring that their passport is up-to-date. Countries can and will deny travelers entry if a passport has less than six months before it expires. This is the clients responsibility.

We highly recommend buying travel insurance to cover any unexpected events. We’ve been using World Nomad ( for years, although you are welcome to use a different company. This trip is non-refundable 30 days prior to arrival.
