We love the Wadi Munay area and this hike will kick up our favorite beginner hike to be a more challenging upgrade. The hike is mostly flat, with a few ascents but the hard part is the descent on the scree, so you should have good shoes and have some experience doing that on previous hikes. We will cover around 15 km (the beginner hike is 7k) so it will be longer, and just a step up in difficulty.
This is the area well known for being the site of an ancient copper mine, and you can actually see the structure at one point, though its not the highlight of the trek. The views into Hatta and the different scenery is the real treat!
This hike is just off the Sharjah/Kalba Highway, 1.5 hours from Dubai. The hike is about 3 hours over varied terrain, up a bouldery wadi, down a plateau where you will see ancient settlements (the remnants of them). We will then go over the ridge for an amazing view of the Hajjar mountains before looping around on our return. Kids are also welcome to participate as they will enjoy this hike, especially if we are going slowly. Please keep in mind that anyone that this is classified as a beginner hike for people that are participating in fitness activities on a regular basis. However, provided that you run, swim, bike, or do fitness classes regularly, you will enjoy this great beginner hike, suitable for all ages, for a morning getaway.
