  • Bwindi park Uganda (map)

The edge of the rainy season is the best time to visit Rwanda and Uganda. The days are clear and cool, the gorillas are lower to the forest and you can see them better. The evenings are rainy with incredible thunderstorms, always clearing up by sunrise in time for you to hike, find the gorillas and monkeys or otherwise enjoy. See 2 countries in 4 days. Gorillas, canoe rides, Batwa trail, and the golden monkeys.

Day 1: Culture Day

Driving: Kigali International Airport to Ruhija Gorilla Camp 5h

You will check into Dubai T2 before midnight on Thursday, Nov 28 to catch the 1:50am direct flight into Kigali on Friday; arriving into Kigali 6:20 am. After clearing customs and purchasing an Eastern Africa visa ($100 cash/credit card), we will meet our local guide. The morning will be spent driving through Rwanda, crossing into Uganda and reaching our final destination in Rushaga, Uganda. Lunch will be en route.

In the afternoon a Batwa guide from the Pygmy tribe will lead us through the forest, teaching us about the plants and their uses, showing us the homes they used to live in, how they hunted and survived in the forest. The Batwa were evicted from their homes when Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was commissioned as a national park in 1991. Overnight/dinner Gorilla Safari Lodge or similar 3-star lodging

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking

Driving: Ruhija to Bwindi, Uganda 2 ½ hours

After a hearty breakfast, we will meet our Gorilla Tracking guide by 7:30am. He will lead you to one of the fantastic Gorilla families. Spend an hour watching these magnificent animals feeding and playing in their natural habitat.

Later in the day, we will drive to Lake Mutanda where we will relax in a local dugout canoe. Enjoy the beautiful lake, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. Overnight/dinner in Bwindi Jungle Lodge or similar 3-star hotel

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking; Transfer to Kigali Airport

Driving: Bwindi Jungle Lodge to Mgahinga (1h10m); Mgahinga to Kigali (4h30m)

This morning we will trek and observe the golden monkeys in the Mgahinga National Park. There are only three countries where you can see the endangered Golden Monkeys in the wild and there are only about 5000 remaining in the Virunga Volcano chain. After lunch, we will leave the Mgahinga and begin our journey to Kigali. We will arrive at the Hotel Des Mille Collines (known as the Hotel Rwanda) for an early dinner before heading to the airport. Dinner is not included in the price of the tour.
